05.00.00. Engineering sciences
05.11.16. Informational measurement and control systems. The track covers the branch of science engaged in researching theoretical and practical issues, methods and technologies for informational measurement and control systems, their metrological maintenance, control and testing, creating and improving complex informational measurement and control systems, control and testing systems.
05.13.01 System analysis, information control and processing (engineering sciences, physics and mathematics). The track focuses on issues in creating and applying system analysis methods for complex applied research subjects including issues in analysis, modeling, optimization, improvement of control and decision-making in complex systems with the aim of enhancing their efficiency.
05.13.10 Control in social and economic systems. The track focuses on development and application of control theory methods in the spheres of social and economic control including issues in modeling and optimizing problem-solving with the view of improving control mechanisms and decision-making within these systems.
05.13.17 Theoretical foundations of informatics. The track focuses on studying information, its types, properties, evaluation methods; issues in researching methods of transforming information into data and knowledge; creating and researching informational models, data and knowledge models, methods for working with knowledge, methods for computer-assisted learning and discovering new knowledge; researching principles for automating the aforementioned processes.
05.13.19 Methods and systems of information protection, information security. The track focuses on the problems of developing, improving, and applying methods and various means for protecting information while it is being collected, stored, processed, transmitted, and disseminated, and also providing information security for protecting political, social, economical, military, cultural, and other spheres from external and internal threats of information theft, destruction, and/or modification.

05.25.00 Documentary data.
05.25.02 Documentation, records managements, archival studies. The track focuses on issues in processing, storing, and retrieving office (administrative, academic, financial, economical) and archival information, its systematization, unification, and standardization.
05.25.05 Informations system and processes. The track focuses on issues in researching, modeling, developing, improving information systems created within various realms of human activity, and their constituent elements: programs and hardware architecture, informational, linguistic, organizational, and legal maintenance, providing information security for their functioning; it track also focuses on issues in modeling and improving information processes of generating, collecting, storing, searching, transmitting, presenting, reproducing information, and on the legal aspects of their implementation.
07.00.00. History and Archaeology.
07.00.02. Russian history. Studies in Russian history. The track focuses on all periods and aspects of Russian social, political, economic, and cultural history. Studies conducted therein may be utilize various methods and approaches including comparative studies.
07.00.03. World history (of various periods). The track focuses on fundamental problems of the world history; it investigates the history of humankind from the earliest primitive periods to the emergence of the first civilizations to the present day; it includes analysis of the multivariant social, political, socioeconomic, civilizational, and cultural development as applied to various regions, countries, and peoples of the world (Europe, Asia, Africa, North and Latin America, Australia) within various chronological periods; the track explores historical reality within specific historical, comparative, interdisciplinary, and theoretical aspects.
Graduate studies in world history involve drawing upon a wide range of sources in ancient and modern languages, studying historiography of the appropriate issues. While positing research issues and formulating specific research topics, departments gear their graduate students towards using state-of-the-art methodology and interdisciplinary approaches utilized in comparative studies in history, in historical and cultural anthropology etc.
07.00.09. Historiography, source studies, and methods in historical research. The track covers studies of various historioraphical issues in the Russian and world history, studies of sources on Russian and world history, and studies in theory and methods of historical research.
07.00.10 History of sciences, scholarship, and technology. The track focuses on the history of the origins and development of the humanities, the social sciences, technical sciences, physics, mathematics, medical sciences, agrarian sciences, geology and mineralogy, chemistry, biology, agricultural sciences, geography, veterinary sciences, architecture, and the interaction between Russia and other countries in studying specific issues therein.
07.00.15 History of international relations and foreign policy. The track focuses on studying the history of relations between countries and peoples in politics, diplomacy, law, economics, ideology, culture, military sciences; studying the general policy of a given state directed at securing its national and state interests and the diplomatic aspect of such policies; the track also studies issues in conflict resolution studies.
09.00.00. Philosophy.
09.00.03 History of philosophy. The track focuses on studying issues in the origins, development, and current state of affairs in philosophy as an integral part in the evolution of the humankind’s spiritual culture; it seeks to explore the status of philosophy in its social, cognitive, axiological aspects within the context of historical, social, and cultural life; elucidating and qualifying specific forms of the philosophical reflection and their refraction in the respective cultural forms within the traditions of learning in the natural sciences and in the humanities, in the experience of the genesis and improvement of theoretical knowledge of the world and the human’s place in the world; the track also strives towards recognizing and describing original premises which launch the philosophical discourse starting with the most ancient speculative constructions to the present-day philosophical models; prognosticating the prospects of the future philosophy under the dominant intellectual liberalism and postmodernist trends towards radical re-assessment and overcoming of the theoretical and axiological heritage of the world’s classics of philosophy.
09.00.11 Social philosophy. The track focuses on studying issues of the origins, development, and current state of affairs within philosophical knowledge as an integral part of knowledge as such; its place and role within the social sciences; the mode of existence of the social reality; society as a supra-organic reality; the connection and hierarchy of the social and the natural; society as organizational form for reproducing sociality; history as an event process in development and interaction between existing countries, peoples, and civilizations; typological features of the historical process; the axiological dimension of the human history; historiosophy of the 20th century; the history of Russia; issues in modernization and choosing modern civilizational landmarks for development.
09.00.14. Philosophy of religion and religious studies. The track focuses on studying the principal issues in the philosophy and religious studies: the theory of religious studies; research methods in religious studies; the relations between issues in theology and religious studies; in theology and philosophy of religion; the history of knowledge in religious studies; history of religious studies; metatheory; problems of religion within history of philosophy, within modern philosophical research; approaches to defining, explaining, and understanding religion.
10.00.00. Philology.
10.01.00. Literary studies.
10.01.01 Russian literature. The track focuses on studying various issues in the history of the Russian literature of 11th-21st centuries, studying the essence and specifics of the Russian writers’ works, their artistic discoveries, carrying forth both the national tradition and the world’s literary attainments; understanding the development of genres, styles, trends, movements in literature and their connection with related literary activity (critical writings, letters, diaries, notebooks, memoirs, etc.); studying literature dynamics.
10.01.03 Literature of foreign countries (English, German, French, American [US literature], Swedish, Italian, Hungarian, Spanish, Swiss, Austrian, Polish, Serbian, Slovenian, Slovakian, Czech, Indian, Chinese, Mongolian, Japanese, Ukrainian, Byelorussian, Moldavian, Kazakh, Lithuanian, Latvian, Kirghiz, Armenian, Georgian, Azerbaijani, Uzbek literatures). The track focuses on exploring issues in the historical development of world literary traditions (with the exception of the Russian literature and the literatures of the peoples of the Russian Federation, and the Russian émigré literature of the 20th century) in their most significant manifestations and patterns of the process. The research mostly concentrates on the history and current state of the literature of a given country or countries with a common language (language family) or cultural traditions, in its totality and inner dialectics, in the sum total of the creative attainments of individual writers.
10.01.08 Literary theory. Textual criticism. The track focuses on discovering the fundamental features of the aesthetic, semiotic, and communicative nature of literary texts, on systematizing cultural paradigms, genre invariants, and communicative strategies of literary texts. Exploration of theoretical issues forms the basis for practical textual analysis and comparative literature studies.
10.01.09 Folklore studies. The track focuses on studying the wide realm of syncretic folk culture. It includes oral tradition, music, choreography, plays and drama, ritual, magical practices, religious and mythological traditions. Research concentrates primarily on the Russian folklore including its modern forms (post-folklore), folklore of the peoples of the Russian Federation, and foreign countries. The folklore studies centers on the theory and methodology of folklore studies, studying the interaction between folklore and book culture, folklore and the “high” culture; structure and texts of folklore, its classification and systematization, issues in collecting and archiving folklore; history of folklore studies. Folklore studies include research within well-developed tracks (fairy tale studies, study of epics, paremiology, ethnolinguistics, ethnic music studies, folklore area studies, folklore dialects, etc.) and creating new tracks (studying modern mythology and post-folklore, using formal methods and computer technologies for analyzing traditions in folklore and mythology etc.)
10.01.10 Journalism. Graduate students study history, theory, and praxis of journalism, the role of journalism in the life of the society with a major emphasis on the history of the Russian journalism and criticism of the 18th-20th centuries; on the relations between the journalism and the literary criticism and literature. Graduate students also study modern journalistic genres (TV journalism in particular), their styles, language, and the relations between journalists and their audience.
10.02.00 Linguistics.
10.02.01 Russian language. The track focuses on investigating issues in the theory of the modern Russian language as a natural stage of the historical development of Russian language studies, on systematizing the theoretical grammar of the Russian language and the knowledge about its history. This track’s particular feature is that it is conceived as a natural continuation of the language theory, more specifically, as a demonstration of the possibilities offered by the general language theory as applied to the specific subject of the Russian language. Thus the general linguistic knowledge can be fleshed out with empiric contents, and, on the other hand, Russian language can be viewed as an embodiment of both universal and varying principles of language structure.
10.02.14 Classical philology, Byzantine and New Greek philology. The track focuses on the comprehensive diachronic study and theorizing concerning classical philology, its origins and development in the medieval Byzantine tradition up to, and including the language, literature, and culture of Greece. The track includes classical studies, Byzantium studies, and new Hellenistic studies, and research results are used to study the laws of the cultural, literary, and language development throughout the world, which agrees with the academic European tradition of multifaceted exploration of the classical antiquity and its heir cultures which form the foundation of the entire modern civilization.
10.02.19 Language theory. The track focuses on the principal sections and methods of today’s linguistics from the introduction to linguistic up to the tiered consideration of the inner structure of a given language. The track also includes current ideas concerning the principal components, units, and laws of natural languages, and study methods. “Comparative and historical linguistics,” “Psycholinguistics,” “World languages and languages areas,” “Historiography” are devoted to the evolution of scholarly paradigms and they study the ideology and techniques of formalization, which acquired independent value due to the structural linguistics achievements.
10.02.20 Comparative, historical, and typological linguistics. The track focuses on the research and development of linguistic theory and methodology via studying genetically connected languages, determining their relations, and describing their evolution in time and space; studying structural and functional properties of various languages independently of their genetic relations; studying and describing languages through systemic comparisons between the language in question and other languages with a view toward elucidating the specifics (systemic idiomaticity) of the language in question; developing the theory and methodology of translation studies engaged in comparing genetically connected and genetically unconnected languages from linguistic, psycholinguistic, functional and communicative, cognitive points of view with the aim of researching translation between languages as a complex type of human language and speech activity; translation and interpretation are explored as both a process and a result of this process.
10.02.21 Applied and mathematical linguistics. The track focuses on developing linguistic theory based on studying specific practical tasks which belong to linguistics per se and to other tracks such as information search, machine translation, terminology, linguistic didactics, information problems, and similar research realms.
10.02.22 Languages of Europe, Asia, Africa, aboriginal languages of America and Australia (languages of the peoples of Europe, of Central, Southern, and South-Eastern Asia, of the Near East, of the Middle East, and of the Far East). The track focuses on researching topical issues concerning the genesis, structure, and functioning of specific languages or language families of the peoples outside Russia in Europe, Asia, America and Australia not covered in other academic tracks.
17.00.00. History of Art
17.00.03 Cinema - , Television and Other Forms of Screen Art. The program is intended to forecast and develop a present state of screen Art, first of all cinema and television Art as a means of mass communication and a part of contemporary culture, and also video Art including analyses of historical stages of its development. The subject of this program covers all kinds and forms of screen Art which create a single informational, communicational, artistic, aesthetical and sociocultural system which can be considered as a part of contemporary sociopolitical and cultural life of mankind.
17.00.04. Visual Art, Decorative and Applied Art and Architecture. The program provides research at the sphere of sculptural and graphical forms of Art: visual Art, decorative and applied Art and architecture. Also, it involves study of artistic features of different forms of Art and architecture and research of means and forms of their interaction.
24.00.00 Cultural studies.
24.00.01. Theory and history of culture. The track focuses on researching issues in today’s theory and history of culture as academic tracks. The principal objects of research include the cultural products of the peoples, countries, and continents from the inception of the ancient cultures of the Near East and Egypt up to the present; the process of human involvement in the world of culture and social and cultural creative process as both an academic track and a social praxis. The track researches the process of spiritual culture functioning in society, trends in the social and cultural development of various social groups and institutions of a given culture.
24.00.03 Museum studies, preservation and restoration items of historical and cultural value. The track focuses on the broad subject of preserving historical and cultural heritage, studying and utilizing this heritage. The track also studies topical issues in preservation and functioning of various forms of historical and cultural heritage. Multifaceted nature of the study subject implies using various study methods including historical and social, statistical and systemic approaches, scientific restoration methods, technical and technological analysis of cultural items, museum exhibitions and museum pedagogy.
Socioeconomic and social sciences.
08.00.00 Economics.
08.00.01. Economics theory. The track focuses on the academic research into theoretical and methodological issues linked to discovering stable and recurrent connections in socioeconomic phenomena, laws of functioning and of trends in development of economic relations, prognosticating socioeconomic processes, evolution and transformation of socioeconomic systems and institutions, national and regional economies.

The track focuses on researching economic systems, their genesis, shaping, development, prognosticating. The track is differentiated from other tracks by studying economic system solely as management objects. Economic systems can be of various scales, levels, application spheres, property types.

12.00.00 Law
12.00.01. Theory and praxis of law and state; history of the theories of law and state. The track focuses on ideas, notions, constructs, concepts and categories, hypotheses, and prognoses which reflect the current level of knowledge concerning general patterns in the origins, development, and functioning of law and state. The track includes theoretical, methodological, historical and logical, axiological and empirical, general and particular, dynamic and statistical elements typical of the processes of law and state development throughout their history and today. The track also includes specific patterns and peculiarities of functioning of legal systems and states, their typological features which manifest themselves in various forms of social order, cultures, and civilizations. An important part of the track is constituted by theoretical generalizations, conclusions, and recommendations directed at solving topical problems in the development of law and state, in legislation, in enforcing the and in other activities; developing programs in renewing and reforming institutions of law and state.
12.00.02 Constitutional law; municipal law. The track focuses on research and development of suggestions for improving constitutional law and municipal law norms, researching their sources and conditions, and validity. Research focuses on the federal legislation of the Russian Federation, on the legislation of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, on the constitutional law of foreign countries, regulations of the local authorities. Important trends in research also include constitutional and municipal legislation, delimitation of jurisdictions between federal authorities and the authorities of the constituent entities, local authorities, legislative authorities and local authorities, their jurisdiction in constitutional and municipal legislation. The track also studies forms and methods of constitutional control, their relation to the activity of state governance, control, and monitoring authorities.
12.00.03 Civil law; business law; family law; international private law. The track focuses on researching the system of property and personal non-property relations within the civil (including business) circulation of spousal and family relations, and also property and personal non-property relations including spousal and family relations with foreign components.
12.00.08 Criminal law and criminology; correctional law. The track focuses on researching criminal law, its sources and individual institutions; criminal law and criminal relations; criminal legislation and criminal law enforcement, and also researching crime as a negative social phenomenon; researching crime structure and dynamics; specifics of structure, dynamics, and causes for various types of crime and crime prevention; also, contents of certain types of penal correction and its system; normative regulation of purposes, tasks, and procedures of carrying out certain types of punishment; correctional system for criminal punishment; carrying out punishment for certain types of convicted criminals; application of correctional law; punishment efficiency and measures for its improvement; correctional legislation.
12.00.10 International law; European law. The track focuses on researching international agreements and customs, basic principles and norms of international law and its institutions; international legal relations; international juridical entities; international legal means for dispute resolution
12.00.14 Administrative law, financial law, information law. The formula of specialty: The specialty 12.00.14 “Administrative law, financial law, information law” concerns analysis, theoretical and practical investigation of the subject and methods of legal regulation; of sources and conditions of legality; of law institutes in the administrative, financial, budgetary, tax, banc and information legal relationships. The specialty also includes working out suggestions for improvement of laws and law enforcement.
12.00.15 Civil litigation; arbitration. The track focuses on public relations ensuing from the civil and arbitration litigation both in the Russian Federation and in foreign countries; the history of their legal regulation, their current state and prospects; and also relations ensuing from defending rights, freedoms, and interests protected by law and connected with civil litigation in the state law enforcement and alternative systems of protecting rights: notaries, mediation courts, and other out-of-court types of rights protection.
19.00.00 Psychology.
19.00.01 General psychology, personality psychology, history of psychology. The track focuses on researching fundamental psychological mechanisms and patterns in the genesis, development, and functioning of human and animal psyche, human consciousness, self-awareness and personality in activities, learning, and communication; applying these patterns in order to solve practical tasks in diagnostics, consulting, expert examination, prevention of psychological problems and anomalies and supporting personality development; historical, theoretical, and methodological analysis of theories, concepts, and views in psychology, development of research and applied methodology, and creating methods for research and praxis in psychology.
19.00.04 Medical psychology. The track focuses on studying general and particular psychological patterns in changes and restoration of psychological activity under various pathological conditions and development anomalies; discovering patterns in the influence psychological factors have on health improvement, on the genesis, course, and getting over diseases and other persistent conditions of ill-adaptation; on successful rehabilitation into society and labor force; studying the specifics of the work of practicing psychologists (diagnostics, expert examination etc.), analyzing trends and stages in the development of medical and psychological research; studying the efficiency of psychological correction methods.
19.00.05 Social psychology. The track focuses on studying the patterns in human behavior and activity conditioned by being part of a social group; studying psychological characteristics of social groups and social movements; analyzing social and psychological methods for researching and influencing (providing grounds for methods and methodology in social and psychological training, role playing and business games etc.); analyzing social and psychological problems in various public spheres (industry, management, education, mass communication, politics etc.)
19.00.07 Pedagogical psychology. The track focuses on researching psychological phenomena, mechanisms, and patterns in education, and on researching the activities of its individual and group subjects (learners, groups, grades, audiences), the pedagogical activity itself and its subject the educator, the multilevel interaction of pedagogical and educational activity in the educational process; researching the influence of the education process and of the nature of the educational environment on the learners’ psychological growths, their personality development at various educational stages; researching the history of pedagogical psychology and its current state.
19.00.13. Developmental psychology, acmeology. The psychological and pedagogical track focuses on researching the development processes and the shaping of human psyche at various stages of the life cycle (from the prenatal period to the newborn stage, to maturity and old age). This development always transpires under certain external and internal conditions (environmental conditions, genetic makeup, accumulated experience, purposeful or accidental influences and the like). Since specifically human development and psyche functioning do not transpire outside communication processes or outside certain organizational structures (from the parent-child relationship and up to business relations in a team of surgeons or within civil service), such social phenomena logically attract researchers’ attention. One of the aspects of the given track is studying cultural and historical psychological development, comparative study of psychological development in various cultures, psychological development in anthropogenesis, and comparative study of biological and historical psychological development. Psychological development in childhood makes its significant (and sometimes irreparable) although not immediately apparent contribution to the development of the adult. The mature age is important for the functioning of the society. Therefore, concentrating on the comprehensive study of adults (from the point of view of analyzing the conditions for achieving the highest results in their activity) takes place in acmeology.
22.00.00 Social sciences.
22.00.01 Theory, history, and methodology of sociology. The track focuses on the in-depth creative research into the fundamental foundations of “Sociology” including classical and modern general sociological and methodological approaches to studying social systems, communities, social processes and phenomena. The history of sociology includes its precursors in the social and philosophical theories, the classical works of 18th-19th centuries, Russian and foreign history of theory and empirical studies in the 20th century.
22.00.04 Social structure, social institutions, and processes. The track focuses on analyzing society as a complex hierarchical system in the process of its functioning within the context of contradictory global trends and factors connected with globalization and regionalization. Therefore, it involves researching the current processes of transformation of social and structural societal relations according to various criteria, the new forms of social stratification, radical changes in the trends and directions of the social mobility, individual and group value judgments, their behavioral models.
22.00.05 Political sociology. Formula of specialty: Political sociology is the study of political sphere of social activities, social-economical grounds of politics, social-economical stratification of social systems, levels and structure of political conscience, interactivity of politics and society, interaction of social relations (social sphere) and political institutes (relations). Political sociology explores: power and it’s domination in social relations; political processes and phenomena in different social environments; interaction of political phenomena and social structures in different space-time historical continuums.
22.00.06 Sociology of culture. The track focuses on researching social interaction within culture, social conditions for creating, broadcasting, and reproducing cultural norms and values, knowledge, ideas and notions, behavioral patterns, symbols etc. Research into sociological problems of culture is conducted on the basis of analysis of Russian and foreign experience; it involves using current theoretical approaches and empirical procedures.
22.00.08 Sociology of management. The track focuses on researching social mechanisms and methods of managerial influence on society, its individual spheres (economic, social, political, spiritual), social groups and organizations, on the human consciousness and behavior. Sociology of management develops concepts of managerial process as a specific type of social interaction which possesses stable and recurrent forms. Social prospects of researching subject-object relations within management are determined by studying, on the one hand, the managerial institutions (mechanisms for selecting and training personnel; delimitation of specific functions and roles; hierarchy of prestigious positions, of mechanisms for control and evaluation of personnel behavior etc.), and, on the other hand, social results of the managerial decisions (evaluating efficiency and quality of management, interpersonal relations in management, value judgments, individual’s motivation and degree of participation in management etc.)
23.00.00. Political sciences.
23.00.01 Theory and philosophy of politics, history and methodology of political science. Political theory is a branch of political science; it provides conceptual foundations and serves as grounds for new doctrines, tenets, and models, it orders and generalizes empirical data which reflect nature and essence of political life, the process of organizing political power, of the functioning and development of various elements in the political space. The history and methodology of political science is a special trend revealing the evolution of political research and academic knowledge; it describes the dynamics of interaction between political philosophy and philosophy in the humanities and natural sciences; it elucidates the process of renewal of notional and categorial apparatus of the political science in various periods of social development and in various regions and individual countries; it reflects principal stages in the development of various schools and trends in the political science and philosophy.
23.00.02 Political institutions, processes, and techniques. The track focuses on studying the essence, specific features, and trends in the development of political institutions, processes, and techniques.
23.00.04 Political problems of international relations, of the global and regional development. The track focuses on studying fundamental and applied issues and principal trends in the international development, and on researching various entities in the world politics. It also covers analysis of the current contents and specific features of integration processes in various spheres of social life, trends and contradictions of globalization.
